Updating furniture for a Grade II listed pub & hotel
The Bull Inn, a historic Grade II listed timber-frame pub & hotel, approached us to update their garden furniture. As a quintessential example of a traditional country inn, the Bull Inn wanted to enhance their outdoor seating area while maintaining its historic charm. The challenge was to balance the need for modern, durable furniture with the aesthetic of a centuries-old pub.
Met the clients expectations
The Bull Inn is a cornerstone of community life in Sonning, serving classic pub food, drinks, and comfortable accommodations in a 16th-century building. As a Grade II listed pub, the Bull Inn needed furniture that would stand the test of time while complementing its heritage.
We suggested pieces from our Teak collection, ideal for the timber-framed building, blending perfectly with the traditional setting. The strong, durable furniture would be able to withstand the rigors of a busy pub garden, ensuring both style and longevity.
After the initial design proposal, the client revisited their needs and decided to incorporate parasols into the layout for extra shade. However, the selected tables lacked parasol holes, leading us to explore various solutions. We offered options to modify the table tops with parasol holes and presented pedestal bases from our Turin collection to ensure a traditional, timeless look.
We created a mock-up of the final design to ensure everything met the client’s expectations before proceeding with the final order.

After careful coordination of delivery times to accommodate food and drink services, along with guest arrivals, we successfully installed the new furniture at The Bull Inn. The transformation of their outdoor space was immediate, creating a beautiful, functional area where locals can relax, chat, and unwind while enjoying the pub’s atmosphere.
The new furniture not only enhanced the pub’s aesthetic but also created an inviting and comfortable environment for patrons to enjoy in the remaining summer months.
