Creating a stylish outdoor space ready for a grand opening
Brown’s Brasserie in Exeter, Devon, marks a significant transformation for the space previously occupied by Harvester for over 15 years. As part of the restaurant’s grand opening, the goal was to develop a stylish outdoor terrace overlooking the quay and river. The project was a collaboration between Kirk & Nolan, Mitchells & Butlers, and LeisureBench, with a deadline set just ahead of the festive season to ensure the space would be ready for Christmas celebrations.
Smart, Fast Solutions
It was discovered that parasols had not been included in the initial quote for five of the outdoor tables. Just days before delivery, it became apparent that these tables required parasol holes, but the marble tabletops originally selected couldn’t be drilled without risking damage. This unexpected hurdle posed a significant risk to both the timeline and the aesthetic goals of the project.
Our team responded quickly and collaboratively. We sourced high-quality extrema tops as an alternative, which could be modified to include the necessary parasol holes. The client was informed immediately, and we worked transparently to communicate the changes and manage expectations. Not only did this maintain the project schedule, but we also ensured that the original marble tops and bases would be preserved for future Brown’s installations, maintaining sustainability and minimizing waste. Any cost adjustments were shared openly with the client, reflecting our honest, solutions-focused approach.
Stylish, modern outside terrace that is very in keeping with the brand’s up-market image
The finished outdoor terrace is sleek, modern, and perfectly aligned with Brown’s premium brand identity. While colder months may limit use slightly, the space still offers a welcoming, festive atmosphere for patrons throughout the Christmas season. The restaurant was set to open on 28th November, right on schedule, ready to host guests for Christmas and New Year events.
